Training will include five sections: The Group, The Facilitator, Safety, Techniques and a Practicum.

This is not a workshop on starting a new chapter, but on becoming a competent group leader. This training is the first step in learning how to facilitate a support group. People attending this training need not have any prior knowledge of facilitating a group, only the desire and interest to learn. Many people have attended this workshop solely to learn communication skills and to become a better group participant.

The format is fast, fun, interactive, concluding with several role-play exercises in the Practicum section. The instructor for the workshop is Chuck Weinstein, MAE, LMHC, and the Director of Facilitator Training for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Boston (DBSA Boston). Chuck is a former President of MDDA-Boston (now DBSA Boston). He has more than sixteen years of group facilitation experience. Chuck introduced and developed the DBSA Boston facilitator-training program in 1997 and now trains facilitators in the New England area, as well as all over the United States. Participants have included: mental health clients (consumers), social workers, mental health counselors, members of law enforcement, professional facilitators, and clergy.
