INTERMEDIATE SKILLS TRAINING WORKSHOP

Sunday, February 19, 2012, at McLean Hospital, Belmont MA

This workshop is only open to certificate holders from the DBSA-Boston Foundations Workshop and/or a Foundations Workshop facilitated elsewhere by Chuck Weinstein, and to people who have facilitated at least eight groups.

The focus of this workshop is a continuation of skills and techniques learned in the Foundations Workshop. Concepts to be discussed and explored include: advanced techniques (e.g. learning how to "embrace the cactus," check-in management, active listening and mindfulness); balancing kindness while addressing safety; emotional boundaries as well as those of time management; understanding crisis/disruption and creating an opportunity for positive change utilizing the energy that this disruption yields. We will use role plays to apply practical application to theory. This workshop is a prerequisite for the Advanced Facilitator Training Workshop.

This workshop is limited to 20 participants.

Registration deadline: February 15, 2012.

This is not a workshop on starting a new chapter, but on becoming a competent group leader. This training is the first step in learning how to facilitate a support group. People attending this training need not have any prior knowledge of facilitating a group, only the desire and interest to learn. Many people have attended this workshop solely to learn communication skills and to become a better group participant.

The format is fast, fun, and interactive, concluding with several role-play exercises in the Practicum section.

The instructor for the workshop is Chuck Weinstein, LMHC, NCC and the Director of Facilitator Training for DBSA-Boston. Chuck is a former DBSA-Boston President with more than eighteen years of group facilitation experience. Chuck introduced and developed the DBSA-Boston facilitator-training program in 1997. Workshop participants have included mental health professionals, members of law enforcement, and clergy.
