President’s Message

April 1, 2024

Dear Friends,

I’ve seen crocuses in my front lawn, however here in Massachusetts, spring has not fully arrived. But it is coming. It is a thing of wonder that the world doesn’t go dark anymore by 4:30 p.m.

Since it is April, it is time to think about Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 15. You are cordially invited to park in our yard (we have space for 65 cars: no car will be blocked), walk to the Battle Green, and see the Battle of Lexington reenacted. I find it very moving. Then walk back to my house for breakfast.

You can easily be done by 7:30 a.m. or sooner. We open the parking at 4 a.m. The reenactment starts at 5:30 a.m. The earlier you go, the better your viewing site. (Optional: our church youth will be on hand to rent 5-gallon buckets to stand on for $5 each.) This is not an official DBSA Boston event.

Directions will be sent to those who RSVP with this Google form: https://forms.gle/PK3izWoPy4R6oZrY9

Update on the Waltham group: Our newest in-person group has met successfully for two whole months with four different facilitators. If you are a trained facilitator and would like to participate, let me know. We’ve had between 13 and 23 participants each week. In February and early March, Maintaining Connections also met in Waltham. (Maintaining Connections has discontinued their Wednesday evening group. They meet online on Fridays 3:00– 5:00 p.m. ET. Go to daytime Zoom groups for the meeting link.

Update on in-person meetings at McLean: McLean’s General Counsel has developed a MOU (memorandum of understanding) template and is working on a custom document specifically for DBSA Boston. When the final decision is reached, we will post the information on our website and send an eBlast email.

By the way, the large brown buttoned sweater that was left at the ice cream social is still unclaimed. Please let me know if it is yours.
